Actor James Wilder didn't take long to steal Kirstie's heart...

KIRSTIE ALLEY confesses that she has a lot in common with her latest sitcom character, Ronnie Chase, in her new hit series Veronica's Closet.

"I'm a very functional human being - one of those people who can watch TV, listen to the radio, chew gum, write a script and be in a movie, all at the same time," Kirstie (right, with her co-stars) tells TV WEEK. "But inside my head is much more what Veronica is - it's easy to hurt my feelings and I am vulnerable. But I like to pretend I'm not. So with Veronica, I decided that I would show more of what's in my head, than what's on the outside, and it seems to be working."

Kirstie adds that, just like Veronica, she is a romantic.

"And I'm fortunate that James is also romantic," she says of her new beau, 34-year-old actor James Wilder (left, with Kirstie). "One day he sent me over a thousand roses - I'm not kidding."

Kirstie plays romance and marriage expert Veronica Chase, a neurotic woman who builds a commercial empire of lingerie shops and self-help tapes on her reputation as the Queen of Romance, but whose image is ruined, and her heart broken, by a philandering husband.

Off screen, Kirstie has had to cope with the end of her 12 year-marriage to actor Parker Stevenson - and her wild new romance with Wilder.
